Howdy everybody!
We have a grab-bag blog this week. First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments about this blog. It has been an interesting experience for Joni and I, and it is a lot of fun. We are getting quite a few kind comments about the blog. Thanks You! Please feel free to send your comments, we love to hear from you and want to make the Blog better. Also, please feel free to subscribe to the HNCB Blog and tell your friends.
Joni just returned from the Woodland Retreat with Denise Bendelewski in Magnolia, DE. By all accounts that have been reported to me, it was a great retreat and fun was had by all. The very sad news, however, from the ones who were there, is that I did not go to Delaware for this retreat. I stayed home to be on hand in case our new granddaughter arrived early. Since Aariona did NOT arrive early, Cooper and I just laid around the house eating bonbons all week and watching the NCAA Baseball Tournament (Clemson played decent but did not advance out of the Regionals, in case you wanted to know). Well, we did a little work in the shop, too.
As noted, the newest edition to the elite group of individuals known as “Joni and David's Grandchildren” has decided to keep everyone on their toes and wait until her actual due date to be born. Sheesh!! Another person in the family with a mind of her own! We are hoping that we get a chance to meet her before heading to Jabez, KY for the Bluegrass Area Basket Weavers retreat. Lindsey has assured us, however, that she has the capacity (after 2 already) and the support structure to manage without us. After all, we are just grandparents. Our real work starts when Aariona needs spoiling!!
Also, as noted above, Joni will be teaching at Jabez next week (June 14-18, 2016). We are looking forward to seeing everyone, as Joni has always enjoyed the people and facilities at Jabez and the 4-H camp. And, it is important to note, Joni promises not to bolt in the middle of the night to see Aariona, if she decides to pop out before the 18th.
Next......“THE BOOK”...... As many of you know, Joni-Dee and Denise have been writing a book, titled, “The Nuts and Bolts of Nantucket Basket Weaving”. The writing of this book was a rather drawn out process, because of the joint schedules of Joni and Denise. They set a deadline, however, late last year, to have all the pictures and all the words down on paper (and in the right order!!) by Christmas 2015. The book is to be self-published through CreateSpace, a unit of Amazon. Joni and Denise met the Christmas deadline and turned it over to their editor. Unfortunately, their editor (me) had just as busy a schedule as the other two, and because we were all learning on the job, the editing and formatting also took some time. After much back and forth with the authors and CreateSpace (they are wonderful people and I highly recommend them to any other future self-publishers….oh, the authors are also wonderful people!) the book has been accepted and a proof is being printed as we speak. We will probably receive the first printings before the end of June!! It will be available from Joni and Denise directly, as well as from Amazon, and as a Kindle edition.
Finally, there is a little know (apparently) rule, that many people are either not aware of, or simply chose to ignore. And that is, if you travel to somewhere interesting, you are required by this rule to send any one who asks (i.e. Me - David Ross) a postcard from that destination. This is an interesting tradition, started by none other than Ringo Starr, who instead of saying, “Goodbye” always ended a parting conversation with, “Send me a postcard”. Some people, I am happy to say, are fully on board with this tradition, and have duly sent postcards to me (David Ross). (Feel free to send one to Ringo too! He writes that because of the internet and texting, he does not get as many postcards anymore). And, to make you feel particularly guilty, some of the more recent ones to me have come from Polland; Angkor Wat, Cambodia; and Moscow, Russia. I imagine that now you know, you will all want to get on board with this educational and awesome tradition! My address is David Ross, 8012 Hoskins Ridge Drive, Summerfield, NC 27358, USA.
Thanks everybody. That’s all for now.
Remember, It’s a Beautiful Day, don’t let it slip away…..
