Hello everyone:
Ya'll may have heard either Joni or I say that we will be reducing the amount of travel to conventions and travel-to events. We have cut 1-2 events per year over the last couple of years. This does not mean however, that Joni will stop teaching. Far from it! We will however, try to be as efficient in our travel as possible and try to hold more events in NC at Joni's home studio. We plan to particularly reduce travel time in the heat of the summer so that we can spend more time with our grandchildren when they are out of school. We still have a very full schedule and continue to be flattered to receive new invitations to teach regularly. We plan to participate as much as possible, while maintaining a stable family life at home!
So, with that introduction, we thought it would be interesting to show you the place that Joni and I hope to spend more of our time....the HNCB Studio and Wood-shop! When we moved from Delaware to NC in 2002, we build the same basic house and floor plan that we had build in Dover, DE in 1993. We made a few changes, however, such as adding a walkout/daylight basement for the studio and offices (these had been in the attic, and we decided dust would rise into the house much less than it would fall down from above!). This is the location you would come to for a Woodland Retreat or an HNCB Nantucket Workshop held in Summerfield, NC.
We live on a heavily wooded lot that slopes down behind the house. Our property extends from the woods-line in the back yard to the top of the ridge, giving lots of space to ramble during breaks from weaving projects. We are in the process of renovating the front yard to be more of a garden than a lawn. The idea is to create as pleasant an environment for creativity and relaxation as possible. Inside, you step down the stairs to the basement where we have basket and wood storage space (lumber, basket kits, parts, molds, tools, hardware, etc), an office, Joni-Dee's studio, my wood-shop and a kitchenette.
Please take a virtual tour and we hope to see you here at some point in the future!
It is a beautiful day (and we are glad we have air conditioning in the studio and shop). Don't let it slip away.
Dave
