Dateline: Summerfield, NC October 2, 2017.
I will try to keep this apolitical, as most of you already now our views on assault rifles. But let me first touch on the horrendous attack in Las Vegas last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this despicable act. We are holding their hearts in our hands today. Let us all strive for a country that is accepting of all people and provides all of us the space to live our lives in peace. Our own personal issues are minuscule in relation to what has happened in NV.
And, as for personal issues, Joni and I have been in SC for a few days, helping my Mom who spent the last few days in the hospital. She is doing very well and is now resting comfortably back in her own home. We are very lucky to have several siblings in Aiken near Mom, and my Indiana brother has just arrived to take over for a few days. We are thankful for times like these when we can be with our families when they need us.
As for baskets, we completed the week at John C. Campbell Folk School before heading down to SC. Our four students completed a whopping 16 baskets! I've included a couple of pictures of the proud students and teacher below. The Folk School, new Executive Director Jerry Jackson, and Basketry Coordinator Pattie Bagley have once again done a wonderful job of creating a unique and exciting learning experience.
This week, Joni & I will be hosting an HNCB Nantucket Workshop in our own studio in Summerfield, NC. The group will be here Thursday through Sunday. Check back here for pictures of the finished projects. As for Joni personally, she has actually had time to make a few baskets for herself!
Fall has arrived here in North Carolina. The cool crisp weather is WELCOME! It is absolutely my favorite time of year. Soccer games have started and Joni and I are taking walks through crispy leaves. It is truly a Beautiful Day. Don't let it slip away......David
